The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video soon, and fan speculation has been widespread.
The first season presents a diverse group of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with songs about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season moves, and how many of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some really amazing disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people create a prediction grid about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
